There are several ACORD 2020 sessions at this year's ACORD Implementation Forum including one on e-Signatures and e-Policy Delivery, both of which are hot topics in the insurance industry today. A goal of the ACORD 2020 initiative is to identify members' needs even if they are not directly related to the standards. E-signatures is an area that is more process-related, but ACORD is working to advocate for its widespread acceptance.

"In this era of mobile, social and cloud computing, consumers need the ability to use technology to accomplish more in less time and wherever they are. Independent agents absolutely need to be able to complete a sale totally electronically. Electronic signatures are essential to this model. Independent agents have to be able to offer online services to their customers to continue to compete," said Marcia Berner, ACORD Director of Implementation Services.

Earlier this year ACORD presented a strategic analysis of e-Signatures which was written by Locke Lord, LLC. It was an educational document, with 3 parts:

At AIF a panel of three lawyers including Patrick Hatfield, one of the authors of the strategic analysis, will field questions from an agent and a carrier as the next step in educating the insurance industry on e-Signatures. The session is called "Guidelines for e-Signatures and e-Delivery in Insurance- Cutting through the Legalese" and will also allow questions from the audience.

If you plan to attend, we recommend that you read the strategic analysis and then submit your questions to mberner@acord.org. We will try to incorporate as many audience questions as possible into the session.

You will learn:

  • Why electronic signatures and e-delivery are important to you
  • Why you should implement them
  • What does the paper really say in non-legal terms

The ACORD Implementation Forum takes place October 22-25th at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Registration is free for ACORD members and you can still register online until October 15 by clicking here.
