ACORD Member Spotlight: Orion Fleet Intelligence

ChrisBernard_OrionLogoWe’re kicking off our new ACORD Member Spotlight series, where we’ll feature the organizations and individuals driving progress in the ACORD Standards community. This month, we’re spotlighting Orion Fleet Intelligence for their role in Next-Generation Digital Standards (NGDS) development.

The ACORD NGDS Telematics Subgroup has made meaningful progress toward creating a common foundation for connected‑vehicle data exchange across the insurance value chain, and Orion Fleet Intelligence has played a big part in moving this work forward.

Orion was instrumental in helping ACORD kickstart the Telematics Subgroup, working to bring together industry partners to address longstanding fragmentation in how telematics data is exchanged across insurers, brokers, and technology providers.

A special thank you goes to Orion Product Director Chris Bernard, whose leadership and commitment have helped shape the subgroup’s momentum. Chris has been an active and consistent participant, regularly attending meetings, sharing expertise, and encouraging broader industry participation. He has also been a strong advocate for standards adoption, reinforcing the value of aligning on a single, industry‑wide approach to telematics data exchange.

One of the subgroup’s early milestones was the development of the “Add Auto Telematic Device” business process, now included in the current NGDS release. This foundational standard helps enable consistent device onboarding and scalable telematics workflows across partners, providing a practical starting point for plug‑and‑play integration.

Building on that work, the subgroup is now focused on defining key telematics data and event elements, with the goal of advancing toward real‑time incident and FNOL‑style exchanges. As this work evolves, additional subject matter expertise will be critical to ensure the standards stay closely aligned with real world industry needs.

“Establishing a true industry standard for telematics in commercial insurance is a win for insurers, policyholders, and telematics providers alike. ACORD’s Next-Generation Digital Standards for commercial telematics enable seamless data exchange so organizations can focus on using that data to create real value for stakeholders.” — Chris Bernard

The NGDS Telematics Subgroup remains open to members and non‑members, and welcomes additional experts from across the insurance and telematics ecosystem to help shape the next phase of this work. To join, please contact standards@acord.org.
