On Thursday, January 21st, the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) brought a number of industry members together at the ACORD office in Pearl River, NY to discuss the possibility of independent agents allowing their prospects and clients to buy on the agency’s website.
“PIA is excited about the prospects of a buy button, which will help empower agents and create new opportunities to reach markets that currently go untapped for most agents,” said Mike Becker, Executive Vice President & CEO of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents. “And because it’s a new concept for many, it’s important to carry out due diligence and have objective conversations about the effect it could have on the industry.”
The attendees listened to the perspective of agents, carriers and solution providers, and provided their input. The overall consensus was that this is a business issue that needs to be investigated. The technology is available to handle this functionality, once the industry determines it’s ready.
“We are particularly grateful to ACORD for hosting this meeting, which enabled some of the industry’s top forward-thinking leaders to share their thoughts on the matter,” added Becker.
