Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leader Dr. Leroy David Nunery II Joins Million Women Mentors’ Women in Insurance Initiative

NEW YORK, August 5, 2020 – Million Women Mentors’ Women in Insurance Initiative (MWM WII) announced today that Dr. Leroy David Nunery II has joined as a Senior Advisor for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I), and will help the organization work toward a more inclusive space for all within the insurance industry.

A longtime leader in DE&I efforts, Dr. Nunery is Founder and Principal of the strategic advisory and consulting company, PlūsUltré LLC. In 2018, he authored The Journey of African-American Insurance Professionals, a study commissioned by Marsh and sponsored by the National African American Insurance Association that provides quantitative and personal insights into the significant deficiencies of opportunity faced by African Americans in insurance. Dr. Nunery has also recently published, “Why aren't there more Blacks in leadership roles in the Insurance Industry?” along with Susan Johnson, Diversity & Inclusion Officer at The Hartford, to open discussion and seek industry feedback on the underrepresentation of African Americans in C-Suite and senior level positions.

MWM WII is a consortium is a consortium of organizations throughout the insurance industry committed to taking substantive and measurable action by recruiting, mentoring and sponsoring women to drive equality in career advancement and leadership throughout the insurance industry. Dr. Nunery has supported MWM WII over the last year, contributing insight to the organization’s first-of-its-kind data collection project about Women Working in Insurance released in February. This signature MWM WII project measured and provided insight into issues and opportunities that currently exist for women in insurance.

An esteemed career in education, business and management gives Dr. Nunery a broad perspective on DE&I issues. Prior to forming PlūsUltré LLC, Dr. Nunery served as Acting Superintendent and CEO at the School District of Philadelphia. His professional experience also includes various roles in corporate banking and capital markets, with the National Basketball Association as Vice President, Human and Information Resources and Vice President, Business Development, in higher education, and with Leroy Nunery & Sons, Inc., a family-owned electrical contracting firm

Dr. Nunery is a Lifetime Member of the National Black MBA Association, Inc., and served as Past National President. Dr. Nunery has also received extensive recognition and awards, including the Wallace L. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award from the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. He is a board member of the Philadelphia Outward Bound School and The Benchmark School, an independent, co-educational school for bright children with learning differences. His devotion to inclusivity has been so impactful that Lafayette College created the Leroy D. Nunery Award for Intellectual Citizenship, given to a graduating student of color for leadership and academic excellence.
