Mike Bergstein announces the formation of the ACORD Agent Resource Group at the General Session. |
|
Why would agents want to be involved in standards setting? Mike Bergstein,
ACORD board member and vice president of The Capacity Group, posed this
question to Subcommittee participants as he announced the formation of the ACORD Agent Resource Group
(AARG), a new means for agents to have a voice in the ACORD process.
Bergstein pointed out that while agent input is essential, finding the method to
get that input is important as well.
Agents often cannot afford the time and expense associated with traditional
events like Subcommittee, and they also don't necessarily need to be involved at
that technical stage of the standards process, said Bergstein. AARG's goal is to
provide agent knowledge and business expertise at the appropriate point, which
most often is at the working group level.
This arrangement was first modeled successfully in the Billing Inquiry
Working Group during the last six months. The group had access via frequent
teleconferences to specialized agency expertise that proved invaluable to the
group's work. AARG will serve as a clearinghouse for requests for agency
expertise, anticipate where it is needed and match skills to particular
standards efforts.
