Common Services Program
ACORD Common Services Standards and initiatives involve at least two of the three ACORD Standards domains: Life & Annuity, Property & Casualty, and Reinsurance.

ACORD Framework

The ACORD Framework is an important initiative that will enable the development of cross-domain standards.  The Framework is a set of five interrelated models, or facets, that collectively define the insurance industry.  This model-based approach will help ACORD develop standards that are flexible enough to address differing business needs and cross geographic borders.  The result will be more consistent and consumable standards, and a common terminology and methodology for the industry to use. Please refer to the ACORD Framework flyer for more detailed information.

Common Services Standards

ACORD Messaging Library (AML)

The AML Standard utilizes common rules and designs to create messages aligned with the ACORD Framework. AML is currently in use for selected message development. Future development will utilize AML for all XML messages used to exchange data between trading partners.

Document Repository Interface (DRI)

Unstructured documents such as pictures or images of policies often need to be exchanged between trading partners as a part of the business of insurance. The DRI standard solves the problems this might pose for systems by defining the messages necessary for posting and requesting documents and associated indexes to a central repository.

ACORD Messaging Service (AMS)

In order to exchange ACORD business messages effectively, partners have to adhere to specific Web Services rules. The AMS standard provides guidance on utilization of protocols for transporting XML messages and supporting electronic documents over the Internet.

ACORD Web Services Protocol (AWSP)

Like AMS, AWSP provides guidance on utilization of protocols for transporting XML messages. AWSP represents the first part of a two-phase process defined by ACORD membership that will continue to embrace newer technologies and standards for the routing of messages.

Naming and Design Rules (NDR)

The ACORD Naming and Design Rules specify the common XML architectural functionality, naming conventions, schema design and implementation rules, and data types to be reused in XML Specifications across all the domains at ACORD. Currently these are being applied to AML and AWSP.
