United States
ACORD has been developing industry standards for over 30 years. In that time,
ACORD expanded from its roots in the U.S. property casualty market to include
life, annuity and most recently, reinsurance and large commercial standards -
adding the last link in the insurance chain necessary to achieve the industry
goal of straight-through-processing.

Canada
ACORD works closely with two Canadian organizations, CLIEDIS (Canadian Life Insurance
Electronic Data Interchange Standards) and CSIO (Centre for the Study of Insurance
Operations).
CLIEDIS is an organization committed to ensuring that the Canadian life and annuity
industry has a set of standards to use that meets the needs of the Canadian market
place. They organize the industry to discuss implementation issues and work closely
with ACORD to help ensure Canadian requirements are met and incorporated into
the ACORD life data model. CLIEDIS is currently on the ACORD Life Steering Commitee.
CSIO utilizes ACORD XML in the portal they provide for brokers and carriers for
the quotation process. CSIO also helps to feed needed standards requirements
to ACORD.
Additionally, a number of Canadian companies have US operations as well as other
global operations, increasing their involvement with ACORD standards and increasing
the standards value to the industry worldwide.
Strategic Relationships
ACORD is leading the development of global standards through relationships with
prominent industry associations. ACORD partners with these associations, and
also harmonizes ACORD standards with those of other standards organizations to
support interoperability. Some of our strategic relationships in this area include:
