ACORD Milestones

 

ACORD has a long history of promoting the use of standards on behalf of the insurance industry. That's how we began in 1970, by countering the proliferation of proprietary forms through the creation of standard paper forms. Over the years we have grown and evolved to ensure we are meeting the strategic and tactical needs of our membership:

2002

  • - First ACORD Life Form is developed and sent to state regulators for approval
  • - Reinsurance Steering Committee established
  • - North American, UK and European Reinsurance Regional Input Groups formed
  • - ACORD XML for P&C and Surety v. 1.2 approved

2001

  • - ACORD XML for P&C and Surety specification v. 1.0 approved
  • - Cross-standard consolidation development plan for XML announced
  • - Joint Venture and RINET reinsurance standards folded into ACORD standards
  • - ACORD publishes JV XML 2001.1 Standards, the organization's first reinsurance standards
  • - UK and European offices opened
  • - Life reinsurance and group life insurance standards begin development

2000

  • - AUGIE, The ACORD - User Groups Information Exchange is created

1999

  • - ACORD releases XML Dictionary for P&C Insurance
  • - ACORD releases XML for Life Insurance

1996

  • - ACORD Life Standards development begins with transfer of the Microsoft OLE for Life Insurance application to ACORD
  • - ACORD OLifE Program kicks off with the support of a core group of life insurers

1993

  • - First ACORD Conference held in Orlando, FL
  • - ACORD Standards Certification program launched

1992

  • - Agency Subscriber (Advantage) Program introduced

1988

  • - ACORD State Forms program launched

1987

  • - First download to an Agency

1984

  • - ACORD AL3 Standards complete for all major lines of business

  • - First ACORD Electronics Standards published
